We’re proud to share that Action for Race Equality (ARE) has been shortlisted for Collaboration of the Year at the 2025 London Youth Awards, recognising our longstanding partnership with Brentside High School and the positive impact it has made on students’ lives.

As London’s flagship celebration of youth organisations and individuals transforming the lives of young Londoners, the Awards spotlight the vital role collaboration plays in creating safe and supportive spaces for young people to thrive.
This recognition comes from our recent partnership with Brentside High School through the Routes2Success mentoring programme, which provides group and 1-1 mentoring for young people from Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage backgrounds.
Together, we have delivered:
- 272 young people supported
- 508.5 hours of contact
- 116.5 session hours
- 63 sessions delivered

As part of this partnership, we also worked with students through our Race Equality Action Projects (REAP), which give young people the opportunity to explore urgent social issues that disproportionately affect their demographics and build skills for their futures.
One REAP focused on Knife Crime Awareness with Year 8 and 9 boys. Over several months, students interviewed guests including Clinical Director for Violence Reduction at NHS London, Dr Martin Griffiths, Ben Kinsella Trust CEO, Patrick Green, campaigner Sosa Henkoma, Knife crime awareness campaigner, Pooja Kanda, and a representative from the Metropolitan Police.
Their work culminated in a powerful podcast exploring the real-life consequences of knife crime and speaks to their bravery in speaking up about this topic.
Meanwhile, a second REAP with Year 9 and 10 girls took the form of a 10-week peer mentoring programme. Guided by ARE role models, the girls developed the confidence to become peer mentors for younger pupils, leaving behind a lasting scheme that will continue within their school community.
Our partnership with Brentside High School has grown and evolved; we have had the privilege of engaging over 100 young people through group, 121 mentoring and Race Equality Action Projects. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited about what the future holds for this collaboration.

This award shortlisting falls under the “Somewhere to Go” category, which celebrates youth spaces that provide safe, supportive environments and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young Londoners.
The 2025 London Youth Awards, sponsored by VISA, celebrate the achievements of youth organisations across the capital. ARE joins a shortlist that includes Free2B Alliance, Enable, Lewisham Music, and the Lewisham Young Mayor’s Team, with winners to be announced later this year.
