We can’t stop and search our way out of Knife Crime: ARE comments

Fighting Knife Crime London was launched on 1st June 2021 to address the causes and effects of knife crime and all forms of violence in Greater London.

Alongside its solutions-focussed network, it curates a quarterly magazine as a resource providing the latest research, reports and statistics on knife crime and social justice.

We are delighted to be supporting the Magazine and proud to have EQUAL Vice-Chair and ARE Chief Executive, Jeremy Crook OBE featured in the September 2021 issue on why stop and search is insufficient to tackle knife crime.

Whilst the police do not cause poverty, they do contribute to a climate which says to young Black males ‘you are not part of society, and we can treat you differently and unfairly’.

Jeremy Crook OBE

The article explores how policy makers are failing to deal with the systemic racism contributing to the negative pipeline that for some young people leads to their departure from mainstream education, a lowering of their aspirations and then entry to the youth justice system.
