New Mentoring Quality Framework launched

Action for Race Equality is delighted to have worked with the Mayor of London’s A New Deal for Young Londoners initiative to co-design a brand new Mentoring Quality Framework alongside organisations from the voluntary and community sector, and support from Bloomberg Philanthropies.

The new framework aims to support high-quality mentoring opportunities, and is for any civil society organisation that provides mentoring for children and young people, whatever their size or mentoring model, whether formal or informal. For example: volunteer mentoring, professional mentoring, online mentoring, peer mentoring and sports-based mentoring.

It has been designed after listening extensively to young people share their thoughts on life after the COVID-19 pandemic, and the transformational impact that mentors and role-models have had on them.

The Mayor’s New Deal for Young People was created to ensure that 100,000 disadvantaged young Londoners have access to high quality mentoring opportunities, and that all young Londoners have access to quality local youth activities.

ARE and mentoring

Action for Race Equality has longstanding expertise in providing quality mentoring services. We specialise in supporting children and young people from Black, Asian, Mixed and minority ethnic backgrounds.

We have been running our flagship ethnic minority role-model and mentoring programme, Routes2Success, since 2013.

Action for Race Equality is Youth Mark Accredited

Since the start of 2022, over 200 young people have participated in the Routes2Success programme, which encourages young people think practically about the best way to realise their full potential in education and employment, and equip them with tools to manage their social, emotional and behavioural journeys.

  • 79% of students said that they were more likely to stay on to further education after attending R2S sessions with mentors or role-models
  • 77% said that they felt more confident about their future
  • 63% of young people said they were more likely to consider self -employment/entrepreneurship

“The session inspired me to not give up in my education and to go for that career I’ve always wanted to do for a while.”
Young person, 2022

“If I had to rate Route2Success on a scale of 1-5, I would give it a 5. [My mentor] was absolutely kind, motivational, and helped open my eye to things I never realised were a problem. She helped me figure out what I would like to do for my post 16, as well as the career I would like to pursue.”
Young person, 2022
