Comic Relief Global Majority Fund
Supporting Black voluntary and community organisations during the Covid19 pandemic
What we did
We issued grants to 41 organisations across the UK led by and for communities experiencing racial inequality.
The grant programme was designed with Covid-19 response efforts in mind, supporting organisations impacted by the pandemic to keep their doors open during a time of crucial need.
The £5,000 grants funded activities to improve mental health and reduce social isolation, provide supplementary schooling, improve awareness and stimulate action on serious youth violence, support women experiencing domestic abuse, help vulnerable communities with food parcels etc.
We also allocated funding for expert consultancy and capacity building support which gave organisations the opportunity to think strategically about how they can sustain and grow.
Impact
I have learned a lot and definitely grown in my role since the consultancy support. I have been given practical tools which I have been able to put to use in real time, but also gained knowledge to use on a longer-term basis. I have gained in confidence as a leader and going forward, I have a clearer vision of some of the more strategic tasks that I need to undertake to help propel my organisation forward.
Centre of Change
The organisations we worked with supported over 800 beneficiaries. They provided a wide range of activities for families and young people including culturally appropriate counselling, tutoring and learning support, mentoring and mental health support, fitness and sports programmes and nutrition and cooking activities.
“The combination approach is much more effective than a stand-alone offer. The grant helps deliver the project whilst the consultancy helps develop the organisation strategically.
