Led by and for young people
Race Equality Action Projects are youth-led and mission oriented. They help young people address an issue impacting them, and find innovate ways to take action.
This project has taught me that I can do more than I think I can do. I can read and speak better than I thought I could.”
What are they?
Race Equality Action Projects (REAPs) address the needs and issues that affect ethnic minority communities. They are centred on issues that matter most to young people, and encourage them to challenge and explore these issues in a productive and meaningful way.
Previous examples of REAPs include podcasts, creative writing workshops and graphic novels.
How can you start your own REAP?
Routes2Success has produced a handy guide, for anyone thinking of starting their own project. It includes instructions for young people, as well as what to consider when planning, executing and evaluating your project.
There is also information on how to claim funding from ARE to support your project. Contact us at hello@Actionforraceequality.org.uk for more details.
The National Lottery Community Fund also offers grants of up to £20,000 to groups of people who want to do something
positive in their community. The application form is easy to complete, and you should get a decision within weeks. Find out more here.

Thanks to generous funding from the Mayor of London’s New Deal for Young People (through the Propel Initiative) we’ve been able to help run the following REAPs in schools:
“The thing I enjoyed most about this project was getting an understanding of my ethnic background, and what my parents and grandparents went through.”
