In 2018, the Windrush Scandal made international news and became a national scandal, causing widespread outrage at the mistreatment of, predominantly but not exclusively, Caribbean elders and their families.
Through ARE’s work on the Windrush Justice Programme, we have been working to remedy the harm of the Scandal through funding small, grassroots Windrush Advocacy group, helping people applying to the Windrush Scheme for Documentation and the Windrush Compensation Scheme.
Their first-hand experiences, consultative parliamentary events held by Justice for Windrush Generations, and a survey of over 1,200 people by Liverpool Advocates for Windrush who are on the programme, has informed this important Manifesto.
Read to understand our collective recommendations for the incoming government, following July 2024’s General Election, and actions we’d like to the next government to commit to in their first year to achieve justice for the Windrush Generation once and for all.
