Action for Race Equality recognises that institutional and systemic racism are at the root of the disparities experienced by Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage people across systems, but too frequently discussions of race and racism are treated as an add-on.
The Policy Action Forum is a brand new initiative by ARE, that will invite experts across specific areas to unpack why racial disparities are occurring and invite discussion on what needs to happen to end disproportionality.
Launch forum
In an effort to strengthen the resilience and influence of organisations led by and for Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage communities, Action for Race Equality will host its first online Policy Action Forum on November 6, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.
The forum aims to tackle the structural challenges facing these organisations and explore ways to enhance their capacity to influence policy.
The event, featuring speakers Shanea Oldham from Harm to Healing and ARE Lead Associate, Tebussum Rashid, will delve into the unique needs of ‘by and for’ organisations. The panel will funding challenges, capacity-building, and support from local and national government, with an emphasis on overcoming the barriers that hinder progress in the sector.
Attendees will have the chance to engage in a Q&A session and contribute to a broader discussion on policy support.
Key questions on the agenda include exploring the meaning and importance of ‘led by and for’ organisations, building sustainable operations, and strategizing for greater policy influence.
Action for Race Equality Head of Policy, Meka Bereford said:
