Language around race and identity is always evolving. ARE is now asking for your input once again.
We want to hear from Black, Asian, and Mixed heritage communities on how racial terminology is understood and used today.
Building on our 2021 micro-project that focused on young people’s perspectives, we’re returning to this conversation amid ongoing discussions about how the media and society represent ethnic minorities in the UK, following a summer of riots and racial tensions.
The Racial Terminology Project hopes to ensure that the voices of those most affected by racialised language are heard and can shape the conversation.
The findings from this survey and accompanying focus groups (see details below) will help inform how language is used across the community and voluntary sector, especially for Black, Asian, and Minority-led organisations developing their own language policies.
By participating, you’ll help us ensure that the terms we use are clear, respectful, and representative of the communities we serve.
We also want those working closely with these communities to feel confident in having their own conversations about race terminology.
Take part in the survey (approx. 4 minutes) and be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win £100 vouchers from a retailer of your choice!
