ARE statement following the recent anti-Muslim attacks in Edinburgh

Action for Race Equality are horrified by the spate of Islamophobic attacks that took place in Edinburgh on Friday. We stand with the victims, their families, and communities.

This year we’ve published more statements condemning rising racist and faith-based violence than any year previous. This is not a new phenomenon, but it is indicative of a rapidly growing epidemic of racist and religious-based violence gripping the United Kingdom and our neighbours.

Ethnic minority and faith communities deserve safety – and that starts with removing hostile recklessness from political narratives.

Hateful, violent attacks against Muslim communities have been rising against the backdrop of inflammatory rhetoric and racist agitation, and wider hostility towards migrant communities who are being systematically dehumanised.

As the UK braces for another change in Prime Minister, Action for Race Equality calls on this government and the next to end the normalisation of anti-migrant and anti-Muslim language and end the violence experienced by our communities.
